Ce Cile

Cecile Charlton, stage name Ce' Cile, started out in the music business a number of years ago after she heard the legendary soulstress, Anita Baker's song 'Sweet Love'. She got her stage name after getting tired of numerous names given to her by the likes of Ini Kamoze who gave her the name Peppa and Red Roze who gave her the name Red Lobster. So in 1996, she decided "to use the French version" of her name "and to make it cute I added a space between the 'e' and the second 'c'". Originally from Manchester, Jamaica, Ce' Cile grew up in Porus and Mile Gully, but spent most of her life in Mandeville. Her grandfather was once the mayor of Mandeville and as such she lived what she calls "celebrity status". A born poet, Ce' Cile began putting her "melodies to the lyrics". Her father was good friends with Ibo Cooper of the group Third World and so he sent his daughter to see Ibo and they recorded 'Beat Of My Heart'. Ce' Cile liked the song which she wrote and sang and it was released as a single, but felt it was a bit "too tame" for her. She wanted to be more of "a soft, sexy singer doing dancehall music". The tune was not promoted much due to Ibo being on tour, but Ce' Cile took the cassette with her wherever she went and a friend of hers heard it then introduced her to Steven Ventura, owner of Celestial Sounds Recordings and M-Phatic Music. Ce' Cile started doing demo tapes with Steven leaving Mandeville in late 1995 to get a job at Celestial Sounds Recordings. She has been a studio manager with Celestial ever since. Her job enables her to meet numerous producers and artists alike. Other perks include free studio time, but she feels she is "still learning to sing".
